Santa Ynez

Santa Ynez Valley information

The Santa Ynez Valley is a younger wine region than Napa Valley, and is located outside Santa Barbara in California. Santa Ynez is only a scenic two-hour drive north of the Los Angeles, so it's perfect for a short overnight trip. Here you will find information about the region presented partially as a recount of a trip I took with a friend to the region. About two weeks before our trip to LA we stumbled upon the Santa Ynez and we are certainly glad we did.

Santa Ynez was made famous by the movie Sideways, but was well on its way to acceptance and had already garnered praise from the wine community before the film ever hit theaters. The film only brought more attention to the region, causing the small nearby towns to nearly overflow with tourists. In short, we were thrilled to think of heading there and visit some of the places features in the movie, but ended up barely getting a hotel room because of the short notice!

On the site you will find a few top places to stay, restaurants to dine at, and things to do near the Santa Ynez Valley, because you're probably going to need a break from wine tasting at some point, if only just to eat and sleep! After that introduction, we move on to the wineries themselves.

An exciting note to about the wineries to get started - all the wineries of Santa Ynez, despite their growing popularity because of the movie, still provide a local feel and local prices. Each has its own distinct atmosphere, allowing the taster to remember his or her experience by both it and the wine.
